Carmen Miranda — O Musical

An iconic figure and a narrative larger than her image

Poster for Carmen Miranda — The Great Musical at Teatro Politeama

01

Context

Carmen Miranda occupies a rare place in the Portuguese and Brazilian imagination: instantly recognisable image, complex biography, contested cultural reading.

Placeholder: production framing and credits to be added.

02

Challenge

The risk of a recognisable title is superficiality: audiences assume they already know what they will see. Curiosity had to be created about the story, not only about the figure.

03

Strategy

We took the distance between icon and person as the narrative engine of the campaign. Communication was built to promise a story, not an impersonation.

The tone balanced spectacle and density: colour, music and movement on the surface; identity, exile and reinvention underneath.

04

Campaign ecosystem

Visual identity, video teasers, rehearsal content, phased paid campaigns, editorial communication and activation with organised audiences.

Placeholder: campaign materials and video to be added.

Audiovisual piece from the Carmen Miranda — O Grande Musical campaign at Teatro Politeama: the colour, music and imagery of the show translated into a format built to hold attention on screen.

05

Audiences and channels

Musical theatre audiences, Brazilian and Luso-Brazilian audiences, music and cultural-memory audiences, cultural tourism and groups.

Channels: Meta, Google, email, cultural press and partnerships.

06

Reading the results

Monitoring was phased, separating initial interest in the title from actual ticket conversion and adjusting the message according to each segment's response.

Placeholder: project-specific metrics to be validated before publication.

07

What this project demonstrates

That recognition of a figure is not in itself a sales argument: it is raw material for a narrative.

A cultural campaign does not begin when the poster is published. It begins when we decide why someone should want to be there.
